Have you ever watched the mileage tick away on your speedometer, feeling like the life of your vehicle is just running out? What if instead of interpreting it as getting older, you looked at it more like being one step closer to reaching your goal? The Volvo Heritage Club is for proud drivers and durable vehicles that reach certain mileage markers and consecutive years of ownership.
A Little Bit of Volvo Cars History
Volvo Cars was founded in 1927 when travel was limited. People drove in their vehicles but rarely traveled long distances. Fuel was expensive, and there were no well-established highways. After WWII, roads began to improve, the price of fuel became more affordable, and people were encouraged to take road trips in their vehicles.
It was not until the 1960s that some vehicle manufacturers realized that they could advertise the reliability and longevity of their vehicles by simply rewarding their customers with a "badge of honor." Volvo Cars came up with a metal badge that drivers could attach to their front grille to boast how long their vehicle had lasted and what a smart decision they made by buying a Volvo vehicle. Soon, the Volvo Cars 100,000-mile club was invented.
100,000 Miles or More
While it's no longer as notable for a vehicle to reach 100,000 miles, and consumers have come to expect twice that from their vehicles, Volvo Cars still has its 100,000-mile club in place out of tradition. However, Volvo Cars have now stepped up its game and created a Volvo million-mile club.
Few people can even dream of reaching this club, for it takes quite a lot of time and dedication to reach this point. Let's do the math. If a person were to drive an average of 20,000 miles a year, it would take them 50 years to put 1,000,000 on the odometer. That is a lot of driving. This is why Volvo Cars awards you and recognizes the achievements of your vehicle along the way.
Volvo Heritage Club
The Volvo Heritage Club, formerly known as the Volvo High Mileage Club, is a club that rewards drivers for putting miles on their Volvo vehicles and staying loyal to the brand. If you've owned your Volvo car for more than 10 years, or your Volvo vehicle has more than 100,000 miles on the odometer, you're eligible for the Volvo Heritage Club.
Volvo Heritage Club Medallions are awarded to drivers after various mileage markers are achieved and when consecutive years of ownership are reached. You can earn a Volvo high-mileage badge after 10, 15, 20, 25, and 50 consecutive years of ownership and when your vehicle achieves the following mileage milestones: 100,000, 200,000, 300,000, 400,000, 500,000, 750,000, and 1,000,000 miles.
There are also Volvo Heritage Club benefits when you join. Members receive a commemorative Volvo Heritage Club medallion to display on their vehicles and the latest news from Volvo Cars, including previews of new offerings and special invitations to Volvo Cars events.
Volvo Heritage Club members also receive access to exclusive Volvo Cars promotions and opportunities to meet with other club members and swap stories with the Volvo High Mileage community.
Can 1,000,000 Miles Be Done?
Some people read about the Volvo Cars million-mile club and think it's a gimmick and that no one will ever reach that many miles on a single vehicle. Well, you're mistaken. Irv Gordon has done it almost three times over. He put 3.2 million miles on a single Volvo vehicle. Irv bought his Volvo P1800 in 1966 and drove it faithfully until he passed away in 2018 at the age of 77.
A lot of love and care went into this vehicle, but 3.2 million miles is quite an impressive number for anything, let alone a vehicle. Volvo Cars awards each one of its members for every 100,000 miles that they put on their car, but, as of writing, Irv is the only one so far to have reached the 3,000,000-mile badge.
